Portraits of the Prairie: Puppetry Workshop
Tuesday, July 12, 2016
Presented by Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre
This 4-day camp introduces kids to the magic of puppetry with one of the country's most renowned puppeteers - Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre. Campers ages 7-11 will build, explore, and perform with puppets of many types while they rehearse to present a performance of Portraits of the Prairie. There's no experience required, and everyone is welcome!
Campers need to bring a sack lunch each day. All campers must commit to attending all rehearsals and the final performance will be on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
The final performance takes place Friday, July 15 at 1:00 PM and is open to the public.
Portraits of the Prairie is written by Iowa Poet Laureate Mary Swander, and explores the history of the land from native prairie through early settlers and small farms, through large agriculture, and back to reconstructed prairie. They're presented through the eyes of Pierre, and wacky painter and his friend, a sassy Iowa squirrel, and the many creatures they meet on their adventures.
